Exploratour - Water on Mars
Lakes and Floods
Separate from the Martian outflow channels, or the river valley networks, are large, dry, Martian lakes which exhibit evidence of a periodic and catastrophic release of water in the form of floods.
In the days of the Viking mission, this evidence was found with an examination of the shorelines surrounding the lakes. There is no water in these lakes today.
